Who is eligible to join or visit Heights Toastmasters?
We are an open Toastmasters Club, which means that all adults are welcome to visit and join. Even you.
What’s your membership like?
our membership of approximately 40 people reflects our location in Brooklyn, in the great City of New York, with diversity of age, gender, occupation, birthplace, and speaking experience.
Who actually shows up to meetings?
We generally have about 20 members plus 4 or 5 guests at every meeting. Sometimes many more attend.
Do you have room for new members?
Although we have good attendance at every meeting with plenty of active members, we still have lots of room for new members to join the club and participate fully in the Toastmasters speaking and leadership programs.
Are children welcome at meetings?
Both because it is the policy of Toastmasters International, and because some adults feel uncomfortable speaking in a Toastmasters situation in front of children, we respectfully ask that you not bring anyone under the age of 18 with you when you visit.
What does it cost for me to visit Heights Toastmasters?
There is no charge for visitors.
What is your dress code?
We do not have a formal dress code, and, the summer of 2011 has been rather brutally hot; however, we ask our guests to be mindful that we meet in a church when deciding what to wear to the meeting.
What time should I arrive when visiting?
Please arrive around 6:45pm.
Can I just pop in in the middle of the meeting to hear a speech?
No. We start every meeting sharply at 7PM. Having guests wander in late is distracting.
Are guests expected to speak at the meeting?
No. We always welcome our guests and answer questions before the meeting starts, and you may be asked your name (so we can properly say hello) but you will be called to the podium.
How much are dues?
Members dues are $78 semiannually. The new member fee is $20. If you join in the middle of the half-year your dues are pro-rated.  Heights Toastmasters only accepts cash or checks.  Dues are covered in detail here.
What if I have more questions that are not answered by this thorough and articulate FAQ?
You are always welcome to visit a meeting or contact us directly.
