Club contest on February 16th

by todd

Fellow Toastmasters,

Looking ahead… Let’s all mark February 16, 2012 as a special date on our calendars.  That is the date of Heights Toastmasters’ International Speech Contest & Table Topics Contest.

This kick-off announcement is being made now to keep it from getting lost in any end-of-year festivities - and to provide ample time to prepare. Additional details for both Contests will be distributed in early January.

Veteran members have experience in these annual Contests and many are already planning to participate.  Newer members should know that the Contests are a variation of our standard meeting agenda.  In both, Bruce S will be the Contest Chair (think Toastmaster of the Evening) and David B will be the Chief Judge (think General Evaluator). Contestants in each contest will be ”scored” (think of an evaluation with points) by a panel of Judges (think Evaluators) made up of fellow members.  The contestant from each Contest with the most points is eligible to advance to the Area Contest to be held in March.  Members can still participate even if they are not contestants.  Opportunities to serve as Judges, Timers, Etc are available for both Contests.

The Table Topics Contest is open to all Club members.  Each contestant will answer the same question.

The International Speech Contest is open to Club members who have completed at least 6 speeches from the CC manual by February 16.  Contestants will each chose their own speech subject.

Remember… additional details will be distributed in January.  Until then let’s all mark February 16 on our calendars.

Bye for now,

Noel

What is a typical speech like?

by todd

Guests and new members often ask us what a typical speech is like.  It sounds like cliche, but there is no “typical” speech, because everyone and every talk is different.  Instead, here’s a random speech that we happened to record.  The only thing to generalize from this video is that your speeches (and everyone  else’s) will be different.
