The “Ah, Um Counter” or “Grammarian” is vigilant in recording our verbal ticks and technical errors while at the podium with the goal of helping us improve. To that end, the Grammarian brings paper and jots down all verbal ticks as they occur. The most common ones are AH, UM, AND, BUT, SO, YOU KNOW, I MEAN, ER. The Grammarian also reports on how many times the ‘Word of the Day’ was used.
